Betsy Berthin belongs to a new generation of dietitians—schooled in the latest principles of nutritional theory, but pragmatic enough to realize that nutrition has to fit into a person’s lifestyle and background. “I can’t ask you to conform your eating habits to my philosophy,” says Betsy. “My job is to help you eat better within the context of you life.”
Born in Miami, Betsy graduated with a degree in marketing and a minor in nutrition. In 2002, she received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition from Florida International University. She graduated suma cum laude.
Throughout the 1990’s, Betsy worked on the award-winning, eight-volume High-Flavor, Low-Fat Cookbook series and Healthy Latin Cooking (and the Spanish version, Sazon y Sabor). She assisted with the nutritional analysis and testing of more than 1000 recipes. After becoming certified in Adult weight management she opened up her private practice. It wasn’t long after that she then became a Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD). She currently acts as sole consulting dietician for the Miami Heat NBA franchise and for the Mandarin Oriental Spa. Her private practice includes Grammy-winning musicians, Latin American presidents, celebrity athletes, and of course, regular folks like you and me.
As a nutrition writer, Betsy has been a syndicated columnist for Tribune Media Services (publishing 13 leading daily newspapers including Chicago Tribune and Los Angeles Times) and has been a contributor to numerous health, menus, and general interest magazines. Betsy is affiliated with the Miami Herald, has appeared on Channels 4 and 7, and has been quoted in numerous health and spa magazines including Men’s Health and Spa Magazine.
Betsy lives in Coconut Grove with her husband and three kids and her dream is to help America become a healthier place to eat and live.
